An event to break the stigma of Mental Health and Prevent Suicide
CHARLOTTE, January 7, 2025 – Mission 34, a nonprofit dedicated to ending mental health stigma and preventing suicide, has announced its upcoming event, Rock the Cause. It will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Big Chill located at 911 East Morehead Street. Tickets for this highly anticipated event have already sold out, but the community is encouraged to support Mission 34’s work by donating or spreading awareness about mental health challenges.
The evening will feature a live performance by The Bad Daddies and a special competition where six local community leaders will join the band for a fun and engaging challenge.
- Carson Clough: Paralympic silver medalist and co-founder of Giddy Goat Coffee Roasters, Carson turned a life-changing accident into a story of resilience, becoming a world-class para triathlete and motivational speaker.
- Kelly Frenzel: Founder of Frenzel Properties, Kelly brings decades of real estate expertise and community leadership, building trusted relationships across Charlotte.
- Kelvin Anderson: CEO of Madison Homebuilders, Kelvin combines business acumen with a passion for community service, supporting numerous charitable and civic organizations.

Attendees will also have the chance to vote for their favorite "Rockstar" and connect with the community. Proceeds will support Mission 34’s initiatives, including suicide prevention education, outreach programs for college students, and activities that build stronger, more connected communities.
“Rock the Cause is more than a fundraiser; it’s a platform for change,” said Heather Bonner, founder of Mission 34 and Sean’s mother. “Together, we can shift the narrative around mental health, showing that asking for help is not a weakness but a New Type of Tough.”
Heather Bonner, Mission 34 Founder
Mission 34 was founded in memory of Sean P. Bonner Jr., a talented athlete and student who silently battled mental health struggles exacerbated by undiagnosed concussions. Founded after Sean died in 2018, the organization empowers young people to talk openly about mental health, access resources, and support one another. To date, Mission 34 has started 12 City and Campus Chapters where students lead their community in raising awareness around the importance of taking care of one’s mental health. Each chapter holds organized awareness and speaker events and suicide prevention trainings.
